da dobrowin: West Ham should make an ambitious move for Porto playmaker Yacine Brahimi and make their fans forget all about the waiting game they are currently playing in regards to Manuel Lanzini’s much anticipated return to fitness.
What’s the word, then?
The Hammers’ string-puller-in-chief Lanzini suffered an agonising knee injury back in the summer whilst preparing for the World Cup with Argentina, that saw him potentially ruled out of action for more than 12 months.
Whilst that long wait has at least been cut down to nine months, that is still far too long for the London Stadium faithful to wait to see their tricky attacking midfielder back in action.
Lanzini had an excellent 2017/18 season with the east Londoners, scoring five goals and recording eight assists. Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked to be missing their creative spark at the beginning of a defeat-laden start to the current campaign, but the talents of Felipe Anderson have somewhat eased the withdrawal symptoms; they could still do with cover for Lanzini in January, however.
What could Brahimi bring to the Hammers?
The Algerian attacker has been an eye-catching performer across Europe for many years now, and at 28 years of age, he looks to be in his prime. Brahimi has four goals and two assists in all competitions for Porto so far this season, but it is his all-round game that makes the Primeira Liga champions click and would certainly gel West Ham’s attack together.
With his 5′ 7″ frame, the former Granada star uses a low centre of gravity to dribble past his opponents with ease and makes things happen in doing so.
Another key feature of his game is his ability to test the keeper from range on a consistent basis, whereas his passing ability and vision often see him cut the opposition defence open like a hot knife through butter – the likes of Anderson, Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic would thrive with him in behind them.
