da betway: According to a report in The Express, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise £30m swoop for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.
What’s the word, then?
da dobrowin: Well, The Express say that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to test the Cherries’ resolve to keep hold of one of their star players with a big-money bid.
The Express says that the 21-year-old caught Pochettino’s eye with some fine displays in the middle of the park for the south coast club last term, while he also captained his country to U20 World Cup glory last summer.
The report adds that the north London outfit may well make signing a new midfielder a priority before the deadline on August 9 despite making no other additions during the window, with Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks all currently injured and the likes of Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier only just returning to training following their World Cup exploits.
Would he be a good Tottenham signing?
He certainly would be.
The 21-year-old, who cost just an initial £6m when he signed from Leeds United a little over two years ago, loves a dribble, pass and tackle in the middle of the park, and Pochettino obviously sees him as an alternative to Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and a potential long-term replacement for Dembele in central midfield.
While £30m may seem like a big price tag, considering Spurs are yet to spend a penny this summer and transfer prices are always rising, it could turn out to be a bargain for a player that could easily be worth double that in a year or two, just like Dele Alli’s value since he joined the north London side from MK Dons.
In addition, he looks destined to following in Harry Kane’s footsteps by captaining England at senior level, and that alone makes him worth the money for Tottenham, who will save their summer with another major cut-price transfer move.
