Indeed, the Baggies are in the market for an alternative front-man, with Liverpool’s Christian Benteke firmly in their thoughts, who should free up Berahino for a summer departure.
Two of West Brom’s Premier League rivals have already tabled bids for the 22-year-old striker, with Stoke City and West Brom reportedly offering £17million and £20million respectively.
There has been worryingly little progress since from a Potters perspective, perhaps due to West Brom’s deal for West Ham striker Diafra Sakho collapsing at the last minute.
But speaking at Stoke’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Premier League clash with Middlesbrough, Mark Hughes has confirmed the Bet365 Stadium outfit are still targeting Berahino.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, he said; “It is no secret that we have made bids and have an interest in Berahino but it is not in our hands.
“He is obviously a player of another club and if they don’t want to sell, or have no intention of selling, then there is nothing we can do to affect that.
‘We just have to be patient and if the situation changes then we will be ready to sit down and talk, I’m sure, but in the last few weeks that doesn’t seem to have moved on to any great extent.
‘He is an outstanding young talent but you need a lot of boxes ticked and all the ducks in a row before any deal happens. At the moment that is not where we are.”
