Writing in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport, Garth Crooks has hailed Yerry Mina after his role in Everton’s thrilling comeback win over Watford at the weekend.
What did he say?
Carlo Ancelotti’s side defied all logic by coming from two goals down, and then having a man sent off in Fabian Delph, to register a remarkable victory over the Hornets on Saturday afternoon.
And one man who played a key role in all the drama, was Mina. The Colombia international scored twice in the space of a few minutes on the stroke of half-time to make it all-square, with Crooks left to wax lyrical over his imperious display.

He said: “It’s rather unusual to pick a defender for scoring goals rather than his team coming away with a clean sheet. Nevertheless I have decided to go with Yerry Mina simply due to his persistence. Every time the ball went into the Watford penalty area at set plays their defence fell to pieces. The sheer presence of Mina (who is a lump by the way) sent Watford into meltdown.”

Standing at a daunting 6 foot 5, Mina is an absolute giant amongst men, and that “sheer presence” as Crooks alludes to, completely overwhelmed Watford on the weekend.
When you’ve got a player with such height and physical power, set-pieces and deliveries into the box take on a whole new meaning. And quite frankly, the Hornets didn’t have an answer on how to deal with it. As per Sofascore, Mina won five aerial duels, as well as coming out on top on six out of the eight ground duels he contested.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
It’s an attacking weapon that Ancelotti should look to exploit more often over his rein as Everton manager, and it could bring in some big points over the coming weeks and months.
Meanwhile, Everton fans have hailed this ace after his performance against Watford.
