da brwin: Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that the ankle injury he picked up in pre-season is more serious than first thought, and that he will be out for a further two to three months.
The news will be a big blow for Arsene Wenger’s side, who have started the season slowly, picking up just one point from their first three league fixtures and being put to the sword 8-2 by rivals Manchester United in their last game.
The Gunners have been without their England international so far this campaign, and Wilshere confirmed that he was not likely to feature anytime soon.
“I can confirm I will be out for around 2-3 months! I am working hard in the gym to stay fit and I am gutted but I will be back stronger,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
The news will put added impetus on new signing Mikel Arteta, who will now more than likely command a starting place in the Emirates first team, and be expected to provide the creativity and vision to forge chances for the Arsenal attack.
Team-mate Theo Walcott, currently on international duty with England, has revealed his disappointment at Wilshere’s absence.
“Jack’s a very important player for us. It’s a shame he’s had this ankle problem, but he’ll be back as soon as he can. Fingers crossed it will be a bit sooner than that [another two months], we’re going to miss him but he’s professional enough to get on with it,” the winger stated in a press conference.
Arsenal take on Swansea at the Emirates in their next league fixture on Saturday, with anything less than three points sure to frustrate the home fans and pile more pressure on manager Arsene Wenger.
