The day was going disastrously by the hour mark when Christian Eriksen netted to make it 3-0 after a first half Harry Kane double. However, a goal from Javier Hernandez then a Serge Aurier dismissal gave Slaven Bilic’s men hope in the final part of the game, with Cheikhou Kouyate’s late effort threatening to ignite a famous comeback.
Ultimately the Hammers couldn’t threaten again though and find themselves in the relegation zone after the weekend’s fixtures.
It was always going to be difficult to beat Spurs and Irons supporters are taking some positives from the game, at the same time as analysing what could have gone better.
One person they are hoping to see more from is Marko Arnautovic.
The summer signing from Stoke showed flashes of effectiveness in his time on the pitch but his final ball and finishing touch were lacking and he was eventually hooked in the 66th minute for Andre Ayew.
