Following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday, Paul Pogba told the press that the Red Devils needed to improve their attitude and that they “are here to attack”, as quoted by the BBC.
Despite having gone ahead thanks to a smart finish by Fred, Jose Mourinho’s side never looked capable of putting the game beyond their opponent’s reach and ultimately paid the price when Joao Moutinho found the top corner of David De Gea’s goal to level the tie.
Wolves were aggressive throughout and more than deserving of their point. In spite of having had only 35% of the possession, the men in gold mustered eight shots on target to United’s six.
Pogba’s post-match comments could easily be construed as criticism of Mourinho’s methods, and perhaps the Frenchman was intending to make that point. However, his admission that the players’ own “attitude should be better” makes it clear that the 25-year-old was not trying to absolve himself and his teammates of the blame for this poor performance.
