According to The Daily Mirror, Newcastle could undergo a major squad overhaul over the next couple of seasons if they avoid relegation this year.
What’s the word?
The Magpies were thrown into turmoil this past summer following the departure of popular manager Rafa Benitez, and things appeared to go from bad to worse after a proposed takeover collapsed.
However, a victory away at Tottenham and a point against Watford have lifted spirits, and The Daily Mirror claim the upcoming period could be one of major transition.

Up to 20 players will see their contracts run out either at the end of this season or the next, with players like Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez and Ki-Sung Yeung amongst those names whose futures are in question.
The report adds keeping their Premier League status in tact could allow the club to splurge the cash next summer.
A fresh start
From protests to apathy, Newcastle fans haven’t exactly enjoyed the greatest of times watching the club they love. The Magpies have been on a rollercoaster ride for a number of seasons, but there have been far more lows than highs.
Whilst seeing players enter the final few months of their contracts may be a bad thing for most clubs, for Newcastle, it could be the sign to start afresh. Get rid of those who have simply under-performed – even if it is the majority of the squad – and begin with a clean slate.
The Tyneside club have relatively few players who many would consider ‘untouchable’. Sean Longstaff is undoubtedly the pick of the bunch, and the Magpies must do everything in their power to build around his incredible talents, while Fabian Schar is turning into one of the Premier League’s top performers.
Reinvesting the money they would get by freeing up wages from fringe stars would be the ideal way forward for Newcastle. So, if Steve Bruce can keep them up this season, the club could be set for exciting times ahead.
